Open Access

Open Access is a publishing model that provides immediate, subscription-free access to the full text of published articles. Moreover, authors who publish in Open Access journals retain the copyright of their article. All articles published by Tobacco Prevention & Cessation are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication. To ensure digital preservation for the future, our electronic publications are archived with Portico and PMC.

Copyright
Authors submitting their work to TPC retain the copyright of their work without restrictions.
The default license for articles published in TPC is the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), but authors who wish to publish their work under a more strict license are also able to choose the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-ND 4.0).
TPC is an open-access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

Article Processing Charges
In the Open Access model, publication costs are usually covered by the author’s institution or research funds. These Article Processing Charges (APCs) replace subscription charges and allow the publishers to make the published material freely available to all interested online readers. APCs are levied to cover the cost of providing our quality publishing services. At the time of submission, for complete transparency regarding APCs, authors are mandated to accept the clearly written APCs or state that they have a waiver. Upon acceptance, a pro forma invoice is created, and upon publication, a final invoice is issued. APCs are payable within 30 days of the invoice date. From January 2021, articles that are accepted for publication will carry an APC of 1750 Euro exclusive of VAT where applicable, unless one of the below criteria apply:
  • All manuscripts from Low-Income Countries are automatically granted a waiver, while manuscripts from Low Middle-Income Countries are evaluated on a case by case basis. As tobacco use is a global public health issue our vision is that it is imperative to aid regional tobacco control research from developing countries and hence our belief is that APCs from High and High Middle-Income Countries are to be used to support the publication of research from Low and Low Middle-Income countries.
  • Editorials and Letters to the Editor do not have any APCs.
  • Full Members of the journal’s society, the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP), will be able to publish their articles free of charge based on the agreement between the Publisher and the Society. For details regarding ENSP membership please click HERE.
Download statistics
The journal provides download statistics for each article published. These can be seen from the "stats" download tab next to each article. These refer to direct downloads from the journal website and does not indicate accesses from other websites or databases.
